Gerard Horenbout (1465–1541), also known as the Master of James IV of Scotland, is one of the most prominent manuscript illuminators of the 15th and 16th centuries. In 1487, he joined the guild of artists and illuminators in Ghent. He carried out commissions for James IV and Margaret of Austria, and was appointed court painter. Among his most characteristic works are theSpínola Book of Hours and the Grimani Breviary.
