Biography

Eugenio Gutiérrez de Torices (c. 1634–1709) took his vows at the Mercedarian convent in Madrid in 1653. His interest in art led him to create religious drawings and sculptures. The wax sculptures he created were highly successful and were praised by Philip IV himself. Among the works he created, the following stand out:The Marriage of the Virgin, The Adoration of the Magi, and The Flight into Egypt ( Convent of the Augustinian Recollects, Madrid).
