Esteban Jordán (ca. 1530-1598) is one of the most important Castilian sculptors of the late 16th century (Martín González, 1971). Although there is little information about his biography, we have news about his first works in León, where he was probably trained. He later moved to Valladolid and came into contact with Alonso Berruguete; in fact, he married his niece Felicia. Later he remarried María Becerra, who was probably related to Gaspar Becerra (Martín González, 1952). There are numerous works by Esteban Jordán that are currently scattered in museums and institutions (Martín González, 1954; Trusted, 1987; Urrea, 2009). For example, the following: the main altarpiece of the church of Santa María (Medina de Rioseco, Valladolid), the tomb of Álvaro de Mendoza (convent of San José de Ávila) or a knight of the Order of St. John (Clerkenwell, London).
