Biography

In 1855, José María Quadrado mentioned the monastery in *Recuerdos y bellezas de España*:“There was in the Kingdom of León a monastery more illustrious in antiquity and fame, and superior in opulence to all those we have mentioned thus far, which even eclipsed those of St. Claudius and St. Isidore in the capital itself in terms of importance and renown. […] This monastery […] is none other than that of Sahagún.” During the Middle Ages, the Monastery of Saints Facundo and Primitivo boasted a scriptorium that was highly regarded throughout the Hispanic world (Franco Mata, 2010). However, the secularization of 1820 and the confiscation of 1837 brought an end to its material splendor.
