The Museo Nazionale del Palazzo di Venezia is located in the Palace of Venice, built between 1455 and 1467 on the initiative of Cardinal Pietro Barbo, who later became Pope Paul II. Over the centuries, the building has had various uses, most notably as the seat of the Austrian embassy at the end of the 18th century. Today, the palace houses a state museum that preserves the art collection assembled by Paul II, along with other important pieces. Among the works from Castilla y León housed in the institution is a musical angel by Alejo de Vahía.
