Description

Enrique Larreta (1875-1961) commissioned architect Martín Noel to build a residence in Tandil (Buenos Aires, Argentina). He wanted to erect "a small house in the Arabic style. It will be a piece of the Alhambra, built with meticulous care and surrounded by terraces, gardens, and fountains of true character" (Salaverría, 1920). This Neo-Mudéjar style complex was inaugurated in 1924. Larreta originally named it "Azelain" with a "z" as a nod to his Basque roots, although he later replaced the "z" with a "c": Acelain. After Larreta's death, the residence became a museum (Nobilia, 2018).
