The American Art Association was an art gallery and auction house based in New York. Founded in 1883 by James F. Sutton, R. Austin Robertson and Thomas E. Kirby, it was the great New York auction house of the early decades of the 20th century, at the height of the American collecting boom, and also at the time of the formation of some of the great American museums. It was first located on the south corner of Madison Square and later moved to Madison Avenue - 26th Street. Important art collections from Spain were auctioned there, such as the collection of the Count of Las Almenas, the collection of Herbert P. Weissberger, or the successive sales of Raimundo Ruiz and Luis Ruiz - collectors and antique dealers based in Madrid - to give just a few significant examples.
