Juan Alfonso de Benavente (¿?-1478) was born in the town of Benavente, Zamora. In 1403 he obtained his bachelor's degree at the University of Salamanca. Subsequently, he occupied the chair of Vespers of Decree and in 1443 he received his doctorate. He was a professor at the University of Salamanca until 1463 (Alonso Rodríguez, 1991). He wrote numerous volumes throughout his academic career, such as Ars et doctrina studendi et docendi (1453).
