Church of San Miguel de Villalpando

Villalpando (Zamora, Spain)

Description

The church of San Miguel de Villalpando (Zamora) dates back to the mid-12th century. It was likely built on the site of an earlier Visigothic church, of which no remains exist. In the early 20th century, Gómez Moreno visited the church and stated that there were four panels that originally formed part of the altarpiece of the high altar. One of these panels, The Fall of the Angels, was purchased by the Cincinnati Art Museum (United States), where it is currently housed.
