Alfred Rütschi's (1868-1929) family came from Switzerland and was involved in the silk industry. After the death of his father, Alfred continued with the family business and expanded the company to the region of Lombardy (Italy). He was also a great lover of art, taking part in associations and acquiring outstanding works throughout his life. He came to treasure one of the most outstanding goldsmith collections in Europe, however, following his death the collection was auctioned at the Fischer Galleries (Lucerne) in 1931.
