Edward Drummond Libbey (1854-1925) was born in Chelsea (Massachusetts, United States). He studied at Boston University and upon graduation went to work for the New England Glass Company, being president of the company between 1883-1886. In 1888 he moved to Toledo (Ohio, United States) the company and changed its name, being called from that time: Libbey Glass Company. In addition to engaging in business, Edward was a great philanthropist and passionate about art. In 1901 he founded the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio.
