Isabel I of Castile (1451–1504) was the daughter of John II of Castile and Isabella of Portugal. In 1479, she married Ferdinand II of Aragon, thereby uniting the crowns of Castile and Aragon. Following the death of her half-brother Henry IV, the War of the Castilian Succession broke out, ending with Isabella’s victory. Five children were born from her marriage to Ferdinand the Catholic: Isabella, John, Joanna, Mary, and Catherine.
