Giovanni Battista Torre founded a print gallery on Market Lane (London) in 1760; however, the firm’s success came under the direction of Paul Colnaghi (1751–1833). In 1805, his son, Dominic, joined the business, and together they became well known in the art world. P. & D. Colnaghi was one of the first galleries to sell photographs. In 1912, the business was renamed P. & D. Colnaghi & Obach, and just two years later, it changed its name to P. & D. Colnaghi & Co.
