Description

Abraham M. Adler (1902–1985) was born in New York and studied at the Yale University School of Architecture. Although he worked as an architect in 1927, he soon began combining that work with a career as an antique dealer. In the 1930s, he devoted himself entirely to the antiques trade and, together with Norman Hirschl, founded the firm Hirschl & Adler Galleries in 1952. He was instrumental in founding the Israel Museum in Jerusalem in 1965. He married Lillian Levinson in New York, and together they built a distinguished art collection that they later donated to various institutions.
