Description

Andrés de Bustamante (1706–1764) was born in Caranceja (Cantabria), a municipality that at that time belonged to the Diocese of Burgos. His parents, Juan de Bustamante and Andrea García, were members of the nobility, as they were related to Felipe de Bustamante and the House of Cuijas. He earned a degree in theology from the University of Ávila and was appointed chaplain of honor in 1753. He had a distinguished career within the Church, becoming bishop of the Cathedral of Palencia in 1750, a position he held until his death.
