The Monastery of Santa Clara de Calabazanos (Villamuriel de Cerrato, Palencia) dates back to the first half of the 15th century, when it came under the patronage of the Manrique family. After the death of Manrique de Lara in 1440, his wife, Leonor of Castile, spearheaded the creation of a community of Poor Clares. She initially established it in Amusco (Palencia), but in 1458 she moved it to Calabazanos, where the monastery was founded. The complex underwent various architectural transformations over time, particularly in the church. Although it did not suffer the direct consequences of the War of Independence, its assets were diminished as a result of the confiscation laws. In 1979, it was declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument.
