The Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna was inaugurated by Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1891 to house the imperial collections. It has several buildings such as the picture gallery, the kunstkammer, the antiquities collection, the numismatic cabinet and the collection of Egyptian and Oriental art. Among the works from Castilla y León housed in the institution are two paintings by Juan de Flandes: Christ Carrying the Cross and Christ is Nailed to the Cross.
