Cruz, Diego de la

Active in Burgos between 1480-1500

Biography

Diego de la Cruz was a Hispano-Flemish painter active in Burgos between 1480 and 1500. Although he was a resident of Burgos, his style has Flemish roots and a clear influence of Roger van der Weyden (Gudiol, 1966; Silva, 1988). He was initially identified as a sculptor because of his collaboration with Gil de Siloé in some altarpieces, such as the disappeared San Gregorio de Valladolid (Silva, 1988). Numerous works by Diego de la Cruz are scattered in museums and national and international institutions. See, for example: Christ between the Virgin and St. John or St. John the Baptist and a donor (Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid); The Mass of St. Gregory ( Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña, Barcelona) or The Mass of St. Gregory (Philadelphia Museum of Art).
