Ávila, ca. 1492 - Toro, ca. 1570

Biography

Lorenzo de Ávila was a Renaissance painter born in Ávila around 1492 and passed away in Toro in 1570. Trained under the influence of Juan de Borgoña, he worked in areas such as Zamora, León, and Valladolid, specialising in religious altarpieces. His work combined quattrocento elements and Raphael-esque Renaissance traits, later incorporating characteristics of Alonso Berruguete. His works are dispersed in various museums and institutions, including notable examples like the altarpiece for the Chapel of the Hospital del Obispo (Toro) and the Assumption altarpiece at the Monastery of Sancti Spiritus (Toro).
