In 1865, John Mallett founded Mallet & Son (Bath), an antique shop specialising in the decorative arts. In 1910, they opened another shop at 40 New Bond Street, London. A few years later, in 1937, his son, Francis Mallett, took over the business. Francis owned an exceptional collection of clocks and Oriental ivories, which he donated to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
