Description

The Ashmolean Museumoriginated in 1682 when the antiquarian Elias Ashmole donated his collection to the University of Oxford. This included exotic objects that had originally belonged to John Tradescant and his son, who had dedicated themselves to traveling the world. The museum was originally installed in 1820 in Broad Street, but in 1894 Arthur Evans moved it to Beaumont Street. Among the works from Castilla y León housed in the institution are a chalice, an ex-voto, a pyxis and an arracada.
