Description

The origin of the firm founded by the antique dealer and art dealer Julius Böhler (or Báhler) (1860-1934) in Munich dates back to 1880. There he acquired a property, located on Brienner Strasse, where he erected a building with the appearance of an Italian palace. This would be the place of reference for a company that became one of the main antique labels in Germany and has survived to the present day, preserving the name of its founder: Julius Böhler. At the beginning of the 20th century the business expanded to New York, when one of Julius' sons, Otto Alfons Böhler (or Báhler) (1887-1950), joined forces with the art dealer Fritz Steinmeyer (1880-1959) and founded the business: Kunsthandlung Báhler und Steinmeyer, where works sent from Munich arrived in order to respond to the avid demand for antiques in the United States.
