The Art Institute of Chicago

Chicago (United States)

Description

In 1879 the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts was founded, changing its name in 1882 to the Art Institute of Chicago. A year later it moved to a park located between Michigan Avenue and Adams Street. The museum soon received the support of numerous benefactors who donated outstanding pieces. Over the years the building was renovated, the most recent being the extension that Renzo Piano carried out between 2000-2009. The Art Institute of Chicago houses numerous works of art from Castilla y León. These include, among others: the Altarpiece of the Virgin and Child from the Cathedral of El Burgo de Osma (Soria), several textile fragments from the tombs of the Infante Don Felipe and Doña Inés de Guevara in Villalcázar de Sirga (Palencia) or Santas Apolonia, Bárbara and Águedafrom the Church of San Andrés (Villamediana, Palencia).
