CHAPMAN, Betty: "Annette Finnigan: Building an Enlightened Community", Houston History 9 (2018): 32.
Description

Annette Finnigan (1873-1940) was a fervent advocate for the arts and humanities. A committed suffragist, she became the director of the Women’s Political Union and the Texas Woman Suffrage Association. Following her father’s passing in 1909, Finnigan inherited substantial wealth and dedicated herself to philanthropic activities, such as founding the Houston Public Library. In 1914, she made a major donation to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, which helped to establish its art collection and supported its early development. Finnigan also made significant contributions of classical art, including sculptures, ancient coins, and other artefacts, aiming to enrich the city’s cultural resources (Chapman, 2018).
