Francisco Simón y Nieto (1855-1920) was born in Palencia and pursued the initial years of his medical studies at the University of Valladolid, completing his degree in Madrid. He undertook doctoral studies and earned the title of Doctor in Medicine and Surgery. In addition to his achievements in the field of health, Simón y Nieto developed a keen interest in the heritage of his province (Sánchez Rico, 2020). In 1893, he raised concerns about the condition of both the tower of the Church of San Miguel and the Church of San Martín in Frómista. Throughout his life, he authored numerous works, including Los antiguos campos góticos (1895) and De Palencia a Numancia: impresiones de un viajero (1906).
