Description

The Hispanic Society of America was founded in 1904 by Archer Milton Huntington(1870-1955), who dedicated his life to building one of the largest collections of Hispanic art and literature in the world. On May 18, 1904, he acquired land in Manhattan to erect a building. Finally, on January 20, 1908, it was opened to the public. The Hispanic Society of America houses numerous works of art from Castilla y León. Among others: the tomb of Doña Mencía Enríquez de Toledo from the convent of San Francisco (Cuéllar, Segovia), a textile fragment from the tomb of the Infante Don Felipein Villalcázar de Sirga (Palencia) or San Martín from the Church of San Martín (Pieros, León).
