Camillo Massimi (1620-1677) was the son of Giacomo Luigi and Giulia Serlupi. His uncle Massimo died in 1640 and bequeathed him his entire fortune. From that moment on Camillo's career took a substantial change and in 1670 he was made a cardinal by Pope Clement X. He was a great collector and patron of the arts and got Velázquez to paint a portrait of him on his second trip to Italy.
