The origins of the Royal Monastery of San Quirce and Santa Julita (Valladolid) date back to the mid-13th century, when it was known as Santa María de las Dueñas and was located on the right bank of the Pisuerga River (Mingo, Rebollo, and Urrea, 2018). The crown supported the complex from its inception: Teresa Gil, Infanta of Portugal; Infante Don Fernando; and Queen María de Molina, among others, donated property and funds to it. During the civil war of 1360, the monastery was demolished and moved to its current location. In the 17th century, renovations were undertaken on the church, beginning with the choir. The number of professed nuns at the monastery remained constant until the Mendizábal confiscation (Mingo, Rebollo, and Urrea, 2018).
