Description

The Kunstmuseum Basel has its origins in the Amerbach Cabinet, a collection of pieces that had been treasured by the Amerbach family and were acquired in 1661 by the city. Over time the collection grew thanks to the generosity of Raoul La Roche, Maja Sacher-Stehlin, Marguerite Arp-Hagenbach, Richard Doetsch-Benziger, Max Geldner and Martha and Robert von Hirsch. These donations made possible the construction of a new building in 2016. Among the works from Castilla y León housed in the institution is the Mass of St. Gregory with donors attributed to the circle of Fernando Gallego (Avila).
