César d'Estrées (1628-1714) was born in Paris. He was the son of François-Annibal d'Estrées, Marquis de Coeuvres and knight of the Order of the Holy Spirit. César d'Estrées was appointed bishop of Laon by King Louis XIV and cardinal by Pope Clement X. He acted as French ambassador to the court of Philip V of Spain between 1700-1703.
