Henry Walters (1848-1931) studied at Georgetown University. After completing his studies, he took over his father's company, Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. His father had been a great lover of art, a hobby that Henry inherited. Throughout his life he acquired numerous works of art, which he displayed in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore, a complex that later became the Walters Art Gallery. In 1931 he donated his entire collection to the institution he had founded.
