Lucy Wallace Porter (1876-1962) was born in Ansonia (Connecticut, USA). Her parents, Thomas Wallace and Ellen Bryant, were co-owners of a factory that produced copper cables: Wallace & Sons. She studied art history at Miss Porter's Young Ladies' School and music at Yale University. Later she went to New York to continue studying at Columbia's Teachers College. In 1912 she married Arthur Kingsley Porter, whom she accompanied on trips to acquire new works of art. During this time, Lucy developed a great fondness for photography, managing to capture through her camera an endless number of artistic pieces (Brush, 2017). After her husband disappeared in a storm in Inishbofin (Ireland), Lucy inherited his collection.
