According to the deed of donation of the monastery, it was founded in 1215 by Rodrigo Rodríguez Girón and Inés Pérez Girón. The temple must have begun its construction in the first third of the thirteenth century, however, during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries it was enlarged. At present there are numerous pieces of the monastery scattered in museums and institutions, such as the Archaeological Museum of Palencia or the Fogg Museum (Roscales, 2000).
