Pascual de Aragón y Córdoba (1626-1677) was born in Mataró (Barcelona). He was the son of Enrique Ramón Folch de Cardona y Aragón, Duke of Cardona and Segorbe, and Catalina Fernández de Córdoba y Figueroa. His brother was a collegiate of the Colegio Mayor de San Bartolomé (Salamanca), entering himself as well. He was rector of the University of Salamanca and obtained numerous ecclesiastical positions like that of archdeacon of Talavera de la Reina (Toledo); in addition, he served in the fiscalía of the Council of the Inquisition and Felipe IV proposed him for the cardinal capel in 1658. Likewise, although the monarch named him viceroy of Naples, he had to renounce it to occupy the position of archbishop of Toledo.
