The Museum of the Order of St John, Clerkenwell

London (United Kingdom)

Description

The current museum of the Order of St. John (Clerkenwell, London) dates from the 11th century and was the headquarters of the Order. The knights who were part of it had as their main mission to fight for the defense of Christianity and to protect the pilgrims. In 1540 Henry VIII decreed the dissolution of the monasteries, which caused their lands and goods to be confiscated. At the end of the 19th century the Order of St. John returned and in 2010 it was opened to the public after completing its renovation.
