Édouard Larcade (1871-1945) was born in Bordeaux and was attracted to art from an early age. The inheritance of his cousin, the collector Laurentine-Françoise Bernage, awakened his passion for antiques and marked the beginning of his career as an art dealer. He eventually opened a gallery on rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré and another on place Vendôme (Ader, 1951). His residence in the rue du Bac was a meeting place, where he rebuilt a Gothic house to exhibit Chinese ceramics. During the interwar period his business achieved great prestige, acting as an intermediary between John D. Rockefeller and Count La Rochefoucauld (Becquet, 2021).
