Godefroy Brauer (1857-1923) was an antiquarian and collector based in Paris and Nice. He assembled an important collection of works of art that he later sold to prominent collectors of his time, among them J. P. Morgan, who acquired an 11th-century Gospel Book , a relief of the Virgin and Child, and many other pieces. In the 1920s, Brauer also made notable donations to the Louvre Museum, including Egyptian sculptures, paintings by Canalettoand several tapestries.
