Louvre Museum

Paris (France)

Description

The origins of the Louvre Museum date back to the 12th century, when Philip Augustus built a fortress to defend the city. Later, Francis I transformed it into a royal residence. Its conversion to a museum will take place in 1793, coinciding with the French Revolution. The pieces came from the royal collection and works confiscated from the nobility and the clergy. The Louvre Museum houses numerous works of art from Castile and Leon. Among others: Christ and the Samaritan woman by Juan de Flandes (Toro, Zamora), Leon de Monzon de Campos (Palencia) or the paintings of the Cathedral of El Burgo de Osmaby Gonçal Peris Sarrià (Soria).
