Description

The Musée Ariana, also known as the Swiss Museum of Ceramics and Glass, has its origins in the collection of Gustave Revilliod (1817-1890). The building was constructed between 1877 and 1884: first by Emile Grobéty (1844-1906) and then by Jacques-Elysée Goss (1839-1921). As for the decoration, Fréderic Dufaux (1852-1943) was responsible for painting the ceilings, Luigi Duglielmi (1834-1907) and Emile Leysalle (1847-1912) created the statues on the façade, and Emile-Dominique Fasanino (1851-1910) created the sphinxes on the entrance. Revilliod donated the museum and its collection, which consisted of more than 30,000 pieces, to the city of Geneva.
