Description

The Carthusian monastery of Miraflores was founded by John II of Castile on an old hunting lodge in 1442. At first the monks settled in the monastery, however, in 1454 a fire destroyed the building. The reconstruction of the Carthusian monastery was promoted by Isabella I of Castile around 1477, with the participation of various artists such as Juan and Simon de Colonia. Inside, the main altarpiece and the royal tombs of John II and Isabella of Portugal stand out.
