Laurie Asher Lawrence

London (United Kingdom)

Description

Laurie Asher Lawrence (1857–1949) was a numismatics specialist and helped co-found the British Numismatic Society. His passion resulted in one of the most outstanding coin collections of the time. By 1880, he had assembled his first collection, but in 1903 he decided to sell part of it to Lord Grantley and auction the rest at Sotheby's. Later, in the 1920s, he acquired new coins for his collection. He moved several times, finally settling in Belsize Square (London) in the early 20th century (Pagan, 2020).
