Denis Alfred Jex Buxton (1895–1964) was the son of Alfred Fowell Buxton, a British banker and politician, and Violet Jex Blake. He developed an interest in art at an early age and studied for his bachelor's degree at Oxford University. He later joined the Royal Air Force and was appointed wing commander of one of the squadrons in 1938. Buxton never abandoned his passion for art and was a member of the Society of Antiquaries. He was mainly interested in archaeology and collected a large number of objects from different cultures. He later donated his collection of fibulae and ceramics to the British Museum (London).
