Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, Rueda

Rueda (Valladolid, Spain)

Description

The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption (Rueda, Valladolid) was built in the 18th century based on plans by Manuel Serrano. It has three naves, with the central nave being taller and wider than the side naves. The circular towers flanking the Baroque façade stand out. In 1845, Félix López Baños, the parish priest of Rueda, requested that the Commission for Historic and Artistic Monuments of Valladolid grant the parish a set of choir stalls from the suppressed convents in the province. Thus, in 1846, the choir stalls from the monastery of La Armedilla (Cogeces del Monte, Valladolid) ended up in Rueda. Subsequently, some of the stalls were sold, leaving only nine of the fifty transferred (Marcos, 2003; Herguedas, 2017; Escribano and Losa, 2019).
