Walter Bornheim, Gräfelfing

Gräfelfing (Germany)

Description

Walter Bornheim (1888–1971) founded the Bornheims Kupferstichkabinett printing house in Cologne, Germany, in 1920. He later moved to Munich and left his sister in charge of the business. In 1936, he co-directed the A. S. Drey gallery with Alexander Spengler, which was renamed Galerie für Alte Kunst. It was located at 13 Briennerstrasse in Munich. Bornheim collaborated with the Nazis by acquiring works of art for them. One of his clients was Hermann Göring (Yeide, 2009). In 1944, his gallery was destroyed by bombing, so he moved to Gräfelfing, to 18 Grosostrasse.
