Although the origins of the Church of Santa María de Villalva date back to the 9th century, only the remains of the building constructed in the 15th and 16th centuries remain. It suffered the consequences of the War of Independence and was looted in 1812. From that point on, it gradually fell into disrepair until, finally, in 1928, it was decided to move the remaining furnishings to the Church of San Nicolás, located in the same town.
