We have very little information about Gonzalo de Estrada Bustamante, beyond a few details indicating that he belonged to a mountain family originally from Silió (Cantabria, Spain). In 1563, he obtained a certificate of nobility from the Royal Chancery of Valladolid, which is currently preserved at The Princes Czartoryski Library (Kraków, Poland).
