Bode Museum (old Kaiser Friedrich Museum). Staatliche Museen zu Berlin

Berlín (Germany)

Description

The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin originated in the 16th century with the collection of Joachim II, Elector of Brandenburg. Later, Frederick William III of Prussia called for the creation of a museum where the objects could be exhibited. Thus Karl Friedrich Schinkel was commissioned to build the first royal museum, known as the Altes Museum. After World War II and the division of Germany, the collections were separated, but were reunited after 1990 under the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. Today the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin comprise 17 museums, including: Altes Museum, Neues Museum, Bode-Museum, Pergamonmuseum, etc. Among the works from Castilla y León housed in the institution are the Triptych of Miraflores by Rogier van der Weyden and one of the panels of the Polyptych of Isabella the Catholic.
