Galería Parmeggiani, Musei Civici di Reggio Emilia

Reggio Emilia (Italy)

Description

The Parmeggiani Gallery has its origins in the collection of Luigi Parmeggiani, collector and art dealer. During his stay in London, Parmeggiani met the Spanish painter Ignacio León y Escosura, with whom he formed a close relationship, strengthened by their collaboration at the Louis Marcy Maison gallery, owned by Madame Escosura. In 1920 Parmeggiani married Anna Detti, Madame Escosura's niece, and in 1924 the couple moved to Reggio Emilia, taking with them numerous works belonging both to the private collection of Leon y Escosura and to the legacy of the Marcy workshop. Finally, in 1932, Luigi Parmeggiani and his wife sold the building that housed the collection to the municipality of Reggio Emilia in exchange for an annuity. Among the works from Castile and Leon housed in the institution areSanta Clara and her sister Inés housed in a convent (Zamora).
