Description

Adolph Dill Williams was born in 1871 in Richmond. He was the youngest son of Thomas C. Williams, a tobacco manufacturer whose business had flourished in the second half of the 19th century. Adolph purchased his father’s tobacco company and invested part of his fortune in philanthropic causes and in amassing an extensive art collection alongside his wife, Wilkins C. Williams. The couple bequeathed their personal collection to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and also left a substantial fund to enable the museum to acquire new pieces.
