Stora

Paris (France)

Description

The brothers Maurice Stora (1879-1950) and Rapahel Stora (1887-1963), were dedicated to the acquisition and sale of antiques, initially as dealers and later with an establishment located at 32-bis Boulevard Hausmann in Paris. The firm gradually changed its name and expanded its headquarters: Stora Art Galleries, in Paris, and later: R. Stora & Company in New York, which at first was located at 670 Fifth Avenue, and later at 471 Park Avenue and 1010 Fifth Avenue. The Stora label, active between 1931 and 1963, was primarily engaged in the acquisition and sale of sculpture and also decorative arts (Dumbarton Oaks), mainly Gothic and Renaissance works. Much of its business was in direct sales to museums (Research Frick Collection).
